Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will play a crucial role in shaping education policy and research initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate policy outputs of the education system.
- Coordinate research activities across the department.
- Design, manage, and support large-scale evaluation and research studies commissioned by the DBE.
- Facilitate capacity building initiatives on planning, monitoring and evaluation.
- Liaise and network with research organizations.
- Present DBE research findings at national and international conferences.
Required Qualifications And Experience
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) or equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
Professional Experience
- Minimum four years of relevant technical experience as an Assistant Director or equivalent role.
- Experience must include research, monitoring and evaluation with supervisory responsibilities.
- Demonstrated expertise in project management and coordinating research projects.
- Proven ability to coordinate work among team members.
- At least two years of experience managing evaluations in the education sector.
Technical Skills Required
- Coordination of large data collection exercises.
- Data management expertise.
- Questionnaire design for school-based surveys.
- Service provider management.
- High-level proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of statistical packages such as R or STATA.
Essential Knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of basic education regulations and policies.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and report on both quantitative and qualitative data.
- Excellent presentation skills for stakeholder engagement.
Highly Advantageous Qualifications
Candidates with the following experience will have a competitive edge.
- Knowledge of the latest research on education system reform.
- Proven personal track record of undertaking research, monitoring and evaluation in the basic education sector.
- Familiarity with relevant national education datasets and hands-on working experience with such datasets.
- Primary authorship of at least two technical evaluation or research reports.
- Experience in developing monitoring tools.
